Engineering Test Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for testing of existing products and products under development per regulatory agency requirements; participates in building test fixtures for testing products; qualifying products under development; maintaining test equipment and test area and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and conducts product testing of mechanisms as an active part of DETEX product development process
  • Test or retests existing products or products under development according to Underwriters Laboratory (UL) or other agency certification requirements.
  • Tests products that have reported functional problems.
  • Tests competitor products for evaluation comparisons.
  • Builds tests fixtures to perform tests on commercial life safety and security products in production and in development.
  • Monitors laboratory test processes, and identifies corrective action based on observations and data analysis.
  • Provides general and technical information related to product testing.
  • Prepares written reports of findings and makes recommendation based on test results.
  • Procures materials and tools needed to maintain or fabricate test equipment.
  • Maintains test equipment and coordinates calibration or adjusts as required.
  • Develop/help develop Test Specifications for Detex DVP&R Testing.
  • Communicates testing process and documentation discrepancies and potential
  • Suggest opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, organization and safety of work area.
  • Follows established procedures and operational controls implemented by the Company to comply with all applicable legal requirements.
  • Follows safe working practices and wears required personal protective equipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited institution/college or university in mechanical or electrical engineering technology preferred, and four years work related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or related engineering experience.

  • Ability to multitask/switch back and forth between assigned jobs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, mechanisms and techniques.
  • Knowledge of and skill in reading engineering designs and specifications.
  • Knowledge of and skill in Program Logic Control (PLC) programs and setting up related equipment; ability to perform mathematical calculations and use  Microsoft Office products.
  • Skill in designing and testing mechanical and electrical products
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools such as power screwdrivers, drills, wire cutters, wrenches, etc.
  •  Ability to work on a ladder for extended periods of time
  • Be attentive to detail, have good planning, time management skills, and be willing to assume a variety of test engineering related tasks.
  • Ability to maintain records, documents and compile and organize reports accurately.
  • Skills in effectively listening and communicating tactfully verbally and in writing.

Repair Tech

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for repairing and testing electronic boards, parts, hardware, and other manufactured security products; provides electronic technical support and troubleshoots issues with products. Performs other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Trouble shoots and diagnoses malfunctioning circuits and recommends and/or implements corrective action.
  • Reads and works with blueprints, process sheets, operations manuals, schematics, and work orders.
  • Dismantles equipment or devices to gain access to and remove defective parts or components using hand tools and power tools/machinery.
  • Evaluates and provides price estimates to repair circuit boards, hardware, and other safety/security devices.
  • Maintains and updates estimate pending and awaiting pack lists.
  • Responds to general questions or complaints related to product(s).
  • Provides electronic technical support for manufacturing.
  • Provides general and technical information related to products. 
  • Assists in the design, development, testing and approval of new parts and products.
  • Provide technical support on security products over the phone and electronically.
  • Increase personal technical knowledge by reading trade publications, operating manuals, and diagnostics information, and attending conferences or seminars.
  • Routinely observe operational performance and install of security product and updates when necessary, to increase product knowledge and technical skills.
  • Maintains detailed records of daily reported issues and completed repairs along with any further actions required on returns, replacements, or repairs.
  • Develop training manuals and troubleshooting procedures to help both support personnel and end users interact properly with security products.
  • Test and repair electronic boards, parts, hardware, and other manufactured security products using hand tools and power tools and machinery.
  • Follows established procedures, work instructions and operational controls implemented by Detex to comply with all applicable legal requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assembling mechanical and electro-mechanical boards, hardware and other door management security products. Sets up jobs, solders parts to printed boards, completes re-work, packs products and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to read and interpret bill of materials (BOM) and accurately pick materials required for scheduled work orders.
  • Assembles mechanical and electro-mechanical boards, parts, hardware and other door management security products using various parts, such as, electronic components, PC boards, covers, plates, boxes, screws, nuts, and wires.
  • Operates/uses machines, hand tools, small power tools, voltage meters and testing equipment to assemble and test product.
  • Reviews work orders and ensure appropriate level of materials, tools, equipment and resources are available for production functions.
  • Reads process sheets and assembles boards and units for standard and custom orders.
  • Works from samples, sample drawings, blue prints, schematics, as well as written and verbal instructions.
  • Solders parts and wires to printed circuit boards and completes re-work.
  • Strips, wraps wires and wires units.
  • Inserts small component parts and/or wires onto printed circuit boards.
  • Packages product and prepares for shipping. Ensures all packaging is according to workmanship standard.
  • Maintains departmental records and logs.
  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials.
  • Attaches identifying labels to finished product,boxes and part containers per work instructions. Assist in moving materials, parts and products as needed.
  • Determines item identification and stock location. Stores items in bins, racks, or shelves, according to identifying part number.
  • Ensure assigned production work orders are followed. Run what is scheduled to run. Communicate any deviations immediately.
  • Completes in-process-inspection to ensure product meets work instruction specifications, quality attributes and reports variances immediately to lead/supervisor.
  • Collaborate with Quality Auditor to ensure all production output meets work instruction specifications to eliminate product variances, waste and customer complaints.
  • Production ownership: Responsible for assigned production efficiency, productivity and accuracy of items produced to minimize backlog.
  • Attendance: report to work on time at the beginning of the shift, after meal & break periods and be prepared to work immediately after clock in.
  • Maintains appearance standards and professional communication skills to ensure a high level of employee dignity, respect and teamwork in the work area.  
  • Supports cross-training of production staff and new hires.
  • Reports building, equipment sanitation, OSHA, and Safety concerns immediately.
  • Continuous improvement demonstrated in production output and building sanitation.

  • Provide daily support to users of various computer systems including answering questions, analyzing problems, and quickly forming solutions to ensure proper operation of company products.

Customer Service Order Entry

Primary responsibility is to respond to customer service requests and process purchase orders.

Responsible for receiving, entering and processing sales, shipping and repair orders; providing customer service information; and performing other office support related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Provides product and billing information, tracking numbers, order status, price/proforma quotes, COD’s and freight costs to customers via telephone and electronically.
  • Receives purchase orders via telephone or electronically; verifies and enters information like pricing, items being ordered, COD cash in advance or open account into system.
  • Calculates credits, price quotes, taxes, COD’s and freight costs on quotes and purchase orders and receives and enters rush orders.
  • When accounts are on credit hold, notifies accounting for appropriate disposition.
  • Works closely with Customer Service Technical Support to assure customer success.
  • Prepares packs with special shipping/packing instructions before releasing for shipping.
  • Coordinates shipments between factory, customer and forwarder.
  • Prepares documents for processing credits, debits and RMA’s.
  • Supports new hire training and cross-training to ensure business continuity.
