Detex is saddened to announce that John Blodgett, former President and member of the Board of Directors, passed away at the age of 73.
John joined Detex on August 11, 1986, as a Systems Analyst and quickly demonstrated the leadership and strategic insight that would shape his long career with the company. Within a year, he was promoted to Finance Manager, and in 1993 he became Vice President and General Manager. His continued dedication and vision led to his appointment as President in 1999, and in 2005 he assumed the combined role of President and General Manager. Over nearly 33 years with Detex, John played a key role in guiding the company’s growth and strengthening its position in the life safety and security industry. He retired on June 30, 2019, but continued to lend his experience and guidance to the company as a member of the Board of Directors.
John held a Master of Business Administration in Management from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He also completed graduate-level coursework in Electron Microscopy, Biochemistry, and Developmental Biology at the University of Texas at Dallas. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
John will be remembered not only for his leadership and sharp intellect, but also for his kindness, curiosity, and unique perspective on the world. Colleagues often remarked on his remarkable intelligence and thoughtful approach to solving problems, but just as memorable was his warmth and sense of humor. Outside the office, John had a deep appreciation for animals and the natural world, and he often shared stories of the wildlife that visited his backyard. His legacy lives on through the company he helped shape and the many colleagues who will remember his intelligence, generosity, and unique spirit.
