Fabricator

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the preparation of custom and standard security products for final assembly; cutting, welding, sanding, painting, silk-screening and assembling various metal plates/products; and other production support related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to;

  • Prepares and assembles custom and standard products for final assembly.
  • Works from samples, drawings, blueprints, schematics and written/verbal instructions.
  • Cuts, drills and punches various metal parts following written instructions or diagrams.
  • Uses various shop tools: welding machine, drill press, paint sprayer, sander, table saw, metal bender/shear, grinder, chop/jig saw, and silk screen equipment to finish products.
  • Cuts, drills, and taps ferrous and non-ferrous metals and plastics.
  • Welds studs to product plates.
  • Prepares and finishes plates by filling in holes, sanding, priming, and painting.
  • Packages plates and sends to production.
  • Provides general and information related to products.
  • Ensures assigned production work orders are followed. Communicate any deviations immediately.
  • Completes in-process-inspection to ensure product meets work instruction specifications, quality attributes and reports variances immediately to lead/supervisor.
  • Collaborates with Quality Auditor to ensure all production output meets work instruction specifications to eliminate product variances, waste and customer complaints.
  • Production ownership: responsible for assigned production efficiency, productivity and accuracy of items produced to minimize backlog.
  • Attendance: reports to work on time at the beginning of the shift, after meal & break periods and is prepared to work immediately after clock in.
  • Maintains appearance standards and professional communication skills.
  • Supports cross-training of staff and new hires.
  • Supports cross-department functions as needed.
  • Reports building, equipment sanitation, OSHA, and Safety concerns immediately.
  • Continuous improvement demonstrated in production output and building sanitation.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, organization, quality control and safety of workarea.
  • Follows established procedures, work instructions and operational controls implemented by the company to comply with all applicable legal requirements.
  • Follows safe working practices and wears required personal protective equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate and one-year fabrication related work experience. Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Knowledge of various metal fabrication techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of various metal finishing techniques and procedures
  • Mechanical aptitude and skills using various machine shop tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, prints and engineering documentation.
  • Skill in working with various metals, plastics and paints
  • Skill in performing shop mathematics
  • Welding experience.
  • Attentive to detail with good planning time management skills, and willing to assume a variety of production related tasks.
  • Skills in effectively listening and communicating tactfully verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
  • Be willing to work weekend hours, and overtime as required.

Engineering Test Technician

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for testing of existing products and products under development per regulatory agency requirements; participates in building test fixtures for testing products; qualifying products under development; maintaining test equipment and test area and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates and conducts product testing of mechanisms as an active part of DETEX product development process
  • Test or retests existing products or products under development according to Underwriters Laboratory (UL) or other agency certification requirements.
  • Tests products that have reported functional problems.
  • Tests competitor products for evaluation comparisons.
  • Builds tests fixtures to perform tests on commercial life safety and security products in production and in development.
  • Monitors laboratory test processes, and identifies corrective action based on observations and data analysis.
  • Provides general and technical information related to product testing.
  • Prepares written reports of findings and makes recommendation based on test results.
  • Procures materials and tools needed to maintain or fabricate test equipment.
  • Maintains test equipment and coordinates calibration or adjusts as required.
  • Develop/help develop Test Specifications for Detex DVP&R Testing.
  • Communicates testing process and documentation discrepancies and potential
  • Suggest opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintains the cleanliness, organization and safety of work area.
  • Follows established procedures and operational controls implemented by the Company to comply with all applicable legal requirements.
  • Follows safe working practices and wears required personal protective equipment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Associates degree from an accredited institution/college or university in mechanical or electrical engineering technology preferred, and four years work related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or related engineering experience.

  • Ability to multitask/switch back and forth between assigned jobs.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, mechanisms and techniques.
  • Knowledge of and skill in reading engineering designs and specifications.
  • Knowledge of and skill in Program Logic Control (PLC) programs and setting up related equipment; ability to perform mathematical calculations and use  Microsoft Office products.
  • Skill in designing and testing mechanical and electrical products
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools such as power screwdrivers, drills, wire cutters, wrenches, etc.
  •  Ability to work on a ladder for extended periods of time
  • Be attentive to detail, have good planning, time management skills, and be willing to assume a variety of test engineering related tasks.
  • Ability to maintain records, documents and compile and organize reports accurately.
  • Skills in effectively listening and communicating tactfully verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for assembling mechanical and electro-mechanical boards, hardware and other door management security products. Sets up jobs, solders parts to printed boards, completes re-work, packs products and other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include but are not limited to:

  • Ability to read and interpret bill of materials (BOM) and accurately pick materials required for scheduled work orders.
  • Assembles mechanical and electro-mechanical boards, parts, hardware and other door management security products using various parts, such as, electronic components, PC boards, covers, plates, boxes, screws, nuts, and wires.
  • Operates/uses machines, hand tools, small power tools, voltage meters and testing equipment to assemble and test product.
  • Reviews work orders and ensure appropriate level of materials, tools, equipment and resources are available for production functions.
  • Reads process sheets and assembles boards and units for standard and custom orders.
  • Works from samples, sample drawings, blue prints, schematics, as well as written and verbal instructions.
  • Solders parts and wires to printed circuit boards and completes re-work.
  • Strips, wraps wires and wires units.
  • Inserts small component parts and/or wires onto printed circuit boards.
  • Packages product and prepares for shipping. Ensures all packaging is according to workmanship standard.
  • Maintains departmental records and logs.
  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials.
  • Attaches identifying labels to finished product,boxes and part containers per work instructions. Assist in moving materials, parts and products as needed.
  • Determines item identification and stock location. Stores items in bins, racks, or shelves, according to identifying part number.
  • Ensure assigned production work orders are followed. Run what is scheduled to run. Communicate any deviations immediately.
